In this workshop, Andrea will show you his personal approach towards design - the same approach he has used throughout his career as a sculptor for the entertainment industry.
He will show you a selection of maquettes he has created for work, as well as personal sculptures. This will illustrate how he uses the same approach towards accomplishing different goals.

Andrea Blasich has spent the last 20 years working as a sculptor in the animation industry. He graduated at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera in Milan with a Master in Scenography. After a few years working for theaters in Milan, Italy, he started to sculpt for animation, which has always been his passion. In 1997, he landed a job as a sculptor for DreamWorks Animation and moved to the U.S. His clients include: DreamWorks SKG, Blue Sky Studios, Pixar Animation Studios, Lucasfilm, Cinderbiter and Disney Animation Studios.
Recently, Andrea is concentrating more on his personal sculptures and bronzes. His work has appeared in exhibitions at Pixar Animation Studios, Cartoon Museum in San Francisco, Nucleus Gallery in Los Angeles, and the Society of Illustrators in New York.

Chris Sasaki is a character designer and illustrator living in Oakland, California. He works at Pixar Animation Studios and has designed characters for Monsters University and Inside Out. Most recently, he production designed the original short film, “Sanjay's Super Team.”
His past clients include LAIKA Entertainment, Blue Sky Studios, Disney Television Animation, DreamWorks, Red Cap Greeting Cards, and Jim Henson Studios. His work has been featured at Gallery Nucleus, on Cartoon Brew, New York Times, and in the Society of Illustrators yearly annual.

COLOR AND LIGHTING FOR ILLUSTRATION

In this workshop, Ryan will talk about using reference effectively in order to create a realistic setting for an illustration. The goal is to create an illustration that has realistic lighting applied to a certain environment and character. Topics that this workshop will cover include what information to look for in a reference image, good reference vs. bad reference, value structures, and the effect of different lighting on different colors.Workshop Details

CREATING A NARRATIVE WITH ILLUSTRATION

In this workshop, Jesper will highlight successful examples of illustration and teach you how to avoid some common mistakes when it comes to the designing process. He will take you through a series of tips and tricks in creating a consistent illustration through composition, dynamic drawing, colors and contrast, and lastly clarity and readability, which is one of the most important factors in creating memorable illustrative paintings.Workshop Details

Jesper Ejsing first discovered the fantasy genre through the works of Tolkien and was introduced to "Dungeons & Dragons" on Christmas Day, 1986. Skipping through the pages of the D&D rulebooks, he set a goal then which would define the rest of his life: he would become a fantasy artist. He would make a living illustrating things and beings that live only in the imagination... one way or another.
He studied Danish Literature and Art History in university before quitting to become a freelance artist full-time. The early years meant drawing anything for money, but with time and relentless hard work, he was able concentrate on purely fantasy art.
When he finally got his first assignment for "Dungeons & Dragons", it had been 20 years from when he first set this lifelong goal. He had set out on a journey on that Christmas Day, pursued his dream stubbornly and at times ignorant to the realities of life, and after two decades of traveling, he had finally returned home.

HOW TO TELL YOUR STORY THROUGH DESIGN

Part 1: Introduction to Style & Character Design
- Short introduction: Why is style important? Learn how to develop a style that will shape your story
- Character Design: Character or “char-actor”? Learn how to build a convincing character through emotional iconography and acting
- Staging: A static image can have movement too. Learn how placing character(s) in a scene can enhance your story
- Set Dressing: An environment can be a character as well. Learn how to tell a story with the use of various elements that make up your environment

Jeff Turley has worked on films such as Tangled, Wreck-It Ralph, and Big Hero 6, and served as the Production Designer on the Oscar award-winning short, “Paperman”. He is currently a Production Designer at Paramount Animation Studios. Although Jeff's day job is a designer in the animation industry, he is committed to bringing quality illustration to a wide range of audiences in a variety of forms. Jeff has a love for the outdoors and often wishes he was living in the woods with his lovely wife, soaking in the fresh mountain air and enjoying all of God's creation.

How can I purchase my ticket?
You can purchase your Schoolism LIVE ticket online. Our default payment method is PayPal. If you do not have a PayPal account, we can also accept a wire transfer (additional wire charges will apply), or a check or money order (time permitting for postage transit). Can I purchase a ticket and give it to a friend?
Absolutely! To gift a ticket to a friend, simply purchase your ticket normally and register your friend's name at checkout. If you have already purchased a ticket but would like to transfer its ownership to your friend at a later date, please email us at email@example.com with his or her name and email address and we will take care of the rest!

Can I purchase my ticket at the door?
If tickets for a workshop are not yet sold out by the day of the event, tickets will be available at the door to be sold on a first-come-first-served basis. Door sales will be cash only.
If I purchased a ticket but can no longer attend, can I get a refund?
Yes, refunds are available up to 24 hours before the event. Refunds will be issued according to the method of your payment, i.e. if you paid via PayPal, your refund will be issued via PayPal, to the same account that you paid from. To request a refund, please email us at email@example.com.
Getting to the Workshop
Will there be discounted hotel rooms available for out-of-town attendees?
Discounted hotel accommodations may be available on a workshop by workshop basis. If we have a hotel partner for a particular event, it will be listed on that event's individual webpage.
Will the instructor have a meet-and-greet session after the workshop?
Unfortunately, no. Unless otherwise stated, the instructors will not have meet-and-greet sessions after the workshops. If you'd like to meet and greet the instructors, we recommend that you arrive at the venue early and speak to them at that time.
At the Workshop
Will I need to show identification to get into the workshop?
Yes, we will need to match your photo ID with the name on your e-ticket printout. If the names do not match, you may not be granted entry so please make sure that you bring your identification and that the name matches that on your ticket.
Will I be able to record parts of the workshop to review later?
Unfortunately, no unauthorized recording of any type, in whole or in part, will be permitted in the workshops. These workshops consist of the intellectual properties of the instructors, so we must do our utmost to protect them.
Will there be a question and answer period after the workshop?
Absolutely! Every workshop will end with a 15- to 30-minute session in which the instructor will field questions from the attendees.
Do I need to bring a notebook, pens, sketchpad, etc. to the workshop?
Yes, please bring something to write on and write with. You will be taking a lot of notes and maybe doing some other exercises, depending on the workshop.
Will there be intermissions during the workshop?
Yes, there will be breaks during the workshop. The number of breaks and their length will vary depending on the workshop.
